Windows Installation Guide
Step 1: Download the Installer
Visit the official Ferdium releases page and download the latest Windows installer (Ferdium-Setup-x.x.x.exe). For detailed troubleshooting, see our FAQ page.
Step 2: Run the Installer
Double-click the downloaded .exe file. If Windows Defender or your antivirus software shows a warning:
- Click "More info" or "Run anyway"
- This is a false positive - Ferdium is safe and open-source
- You can verify the file by checking its digital signature
Step 3: Follow the Installation Wizard
The installation wizard will guide you through the process:
- Accept the license agreement
- Choose installation location (default is recommended)
- Select additional options if needed
- Click "Install" and wait for completion
Step 4: Launch Ferdium
Once installation is complete, Ferdium will launch automatically. You can also find it in your Start menu or create a desktop shortcut.

macOS Installation Guide
Step 1: Download the DMG File
Download the latest macOS installer (Ferdium-x.x.x.dmg) from the official releases page. For common installation issues, visit our FAQ.
Step 2: Open the DMG File
Double-click the downloaded .dmg file to mount it. A Finder window will open showing the Ferdium application.
Step 3: Install Ferdium
Drag the Ferdium icon to your Applications folder. You may see a security warning:
- If macOS blocks the app, go to System Preferences → Security & Privacy
- Click "Open Anyway" next to the blocked app message
- Alternatively, right-click the app and select "Open", then confirm
Step 4: First Launch
Open Ferdium from your Applications folder. On first launch, you may need to allow it in System Preferences if prompted.
Tip: You can keep Ferdium in your Dock for easy access by right-clicking the icon and selecting "Options → Keep in Dock".
Linux Installation Guide
Option 1: AppImage (Universal)
The AppImage format works on all Linux distributions:
- Download Ferdium-x.x.x.AppImage from the releases page. For server setup, see our server guide
- Make it executable:
chmod +x Ferdium-*.AppImage - Run it:
./Ferdium-*.AppImage
Option 2: Debian/Ubuntu (.deb)
For Debian-based distributions:
- Download the .deb package
- Install using:
sudo dpkg -i ferdium_*.deb - Fix dependencies if needed:
sudo apt-get install -f
Option 3: Fedora/RHEL (.rpm)
For RPM-based distributions:
- Download the .rpm package
- Install using:
sudo dnf install ferdium-*.rpmorsudo rpm -i ferdium-*.rpm
Option 4: Snap Package
If you have Snap installed:
sudo snap install ferdium
Pro Tip: For automatic updates, consider using your distribution's package manager or set up a cron job to check for new AppImage releases.

Solutions:
- Go to System Preferences → Security & Privacy

- Or right-click the app and select "Open", then confirm
- For macOS Catalina and later, you may need to allow in Privacy settings

Problem: AppImage won't run or missing dependencies
Solutions:
- Make AppImage executable:
chmod +x Ferdium-*.AppImage - Install FUSE library if needed:
sudo apt install fuse - Use package manager version (.deb or .rpm) for better integration
